A renowned business in Ulverston is hoping to inspire the next generation to keep its craft alive in the modern age.

Cumbria Crystal is one of the only remaining English manufacturers of hand-blown and hand-cut lead crystal, with products featured in James Bond and Downton Abbey.

Its creations can also be found in Bentley cars, and have been a proven favourite of the Royal Family over the years.

However, the team at Cumbria Crystal are facing a fight to bring in more employees as they look to preserve the tradition.

In an attempt to drum up interest and increase public awareness of what they are doing, Cumbria Crystal are opening their doors through the work week so that the public can witness glassblowing in person - and even take part themselves.

These experiences are delivered inside the firm's working factory based at Canal Head, with activities available for people aged eight and above.

One of the options the business provides is a chance to blow a glass bauble, where one of the team will tutor and support you through every step of the creation.

Or you could craft your own crystal paperweight, involving a selection of coloured glass granules that are added to the molten glass at temperatures reaching 1200 degrees centigrade.

You might wish to design and bring to life a glass vase, tumbler or pumpkin of your own choosing, all of which provide a 'truly unique and educational' experience.

Cumbria Crystal has added new opportunities to the mix as well, such as glass etching sessions that teach visitors the intricacies of the fine art.

Whether you are a seasoned artist or a curious beginner, the workshops are hoped to inspire and delight in equal measure.

There is no booking required, with people encouraged to drop in from Monday to Saturday between 9am and 5pm, or from 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
