Five walkers will take on a seven-day memory walk in support of St John's Hospice and St Mary's Hospice.
This event, which takes place from August 3 to 9, aims to gather funds for the two hospices, known for providing exceptional end-of-life care for loved ones and the broader community.
Sadly, three out of the five participants suffered personal losses in the past year.
As a result, they've committed to this challenging journey, hoping to raise the necessary funds to ensure a high level of care for other patients in hospices and their homes.
Their choice of location, Kendal Limestone Way, holds special meaning.
Beginning at Skipton Parish Church and concluding seven days later at Kendal Parish Church, the significant ascents and descents of this route symbolise the emotional ups and downs of the end-of-life journey faced by patients and their carers.
The group has encouraged the community to join them, either for an hour or longer, while donations are also appreciated.
Adding to this incentive, Churchill Retirement Living pledged to match all donations, up to £1,000.
Walk participant Pamela Bissland said: "St John's cared for my dear friends’ beloved in their last days.
"Fellow walker Adrian's wife Val, passed peacefully there too, as did Chris, Gary's brother.
"My brother Tony passed in St Mary's last year surrounded by family and so loved.
"The support, love and understanding that the staff give is unbelievable.
"The families are supported unconditionally."
Lisa Morgan, community fundraising manager at St John's Hospice, weighed in on the event.
She said: "This will be an emotional and physical challenge for the walkers.
"Our hearts go out to them for their losses and for taking on this seven-day memory walk to raise funds for St John's and St Mary's so that our care can continue for others.
"Thank you to these walkers, who may soon become the South Lakes 'famous five'!"
