Residents in Barrow will be coming together next month to celebrate their home town across a weekend.

Three events, dubbed the Brilliant Barrow Weekend, will take place between Friday, August 16 and Sunday, August 18, paying tribute to the heritage of the area as well as giving people a reason to visit the town centre.

On the Friday, the Dock Museum will be transporting visitors to the Victorian age, transforming the promenade into what it might have looked like a few centuries ago.

Besides a cast of Victorian actors, the main attraction will be a giant sand pit, which will see people compete to construct their own seaside masterpieces.

The day after, Barrow's soapbox derby makes its grand return, beginning at 10am with the start line located on Dalton Road.

To cap off the weekend, a Quayside Festival is being held at the Morrison's supermarket, celebrating Barrow's maritime heritage, nature and wildlife.
