PLANS have been lodged to add more homes to a previously approved housing scheme in south Cumbria.

Genesis Homes have applied to Westmorland and Furness Council to add 8 more homes to the housing development on land North of Laurel Gardens in Kendal.

This would increase the number of homes on the site to 165 in total.

According to a cover letter submitted with the application, the scheme is being delivered in two phases with the construction of houses in phase one underway. The letter adds the applicant is proposing changes to phase two which could see 89 homes built instead of 81.

Planning documents state: “The amendments to the approved scheme will ensure that the delivery of new homes on this allocated housing site is maximised.”

The initial scheme for 157 homes was given the go-ahead by the former South Lakeland District Council in January 2021.

The design and access statement for the original application says: “The proposals will create a residential community of high-quality design that complements the local area and respects the site’s edge of town location. A mix of well-designed and energy efficient homes will be delivered through the development.

“The site is served by a range of transport methods and the town centre, and local facilities are easily accessible. The proposals include green spaces and seek to strengthen links to the wider countryside by maintaining and improving footpaths within the site.”

This planning application is currently undergoing public consultation.
