A PROLIFIC offender with hundreds of convictions to his name has been given a new punishment by a court following his release from prison.

Craig James Adams, who has committed more than 400 offences, was handed another sentence by magistrates.

The court heard the 49-year-old breached supervision requirements having been released from a period behind bars.

It came after he was said to have failed to attend appointments with the Probation Service on March 15 and 21 and did not provide evidence to excuse himself.

At a previous court appearance, he denied the breach.

But it was proved in his absence in at a later hearing at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court after he failed to attend, according to court documents.

He was fined £120 by the court for the infraction.

Adams, of Low White Close in Barrow, appeared in court via video link.

Adams' list of previous offences was once described by a magistrate as an 'appaling record'.

Last year, Adams admitted racially aggravated harassment and assault of an emergency worker. He demonstrated hostility to the doctor, who worked at Furness General.

On March 28 2023, just two days later, he assaulted a paramedic.

In May 2019, he was jailed for 24 weeks after he admitted threatening staff at Furness General Hospital, breaking an order to prevent him from doing so.

The court heard that he shouted abuse at medical and security staff while there for a treatment following an overdose on March 10.

Defending, Tristan Roberts previously described him as a 'chronic alcoholic' whose behaviour was influenced heavily by his addiction.

He said: "He is the one of the worst alcoholics I have ever seen in my time as a defence solicitor.

"He accepts that he was extremely drunk at the time.

"When he is sober he is pleasant, compliant and helpful and the police agree."

Adams is due to be sentenced in August for assaulting a police officer and using threatening behaviour towards another officer and two others.

He also pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis.
