A MOUNTAIN biker has died after a 'serious medical issue' in the Lake District.

Mountain rescuers and paramedics were called to Monk Coniston Moor before 4.30pm on Sunday.

Coniston Mountain Rescue Team said the mountain biker  could not be saved despite the emergency response.

A CMRT spokesman said on social media: "On a warm afternoon, we were called out by North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) to assist a male mountain biker with a serious medical issue.

"Other resources called in included two land ambulances, a support vehicle, Helimed 58 from Langwathby and a Beep Doctor. Unfortunately, despite all the resources applied, the gentleman could not be helped.

"Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time."

Eight volunteer team members attended the incident, which lasted for four hours and 20 minutes.
