The people behind a restaurant in the Lake District were 'blown away' after being named as one of the best in the UK.

The Yan at Broadrayne, found in Grasmere, has been included in the Good Food Guide 2024 top 100.

It is the second year in a row that the popular restaurant has made the cut, though this time around, it was the only representative from Cumbria on the list.

Georgina Keighley-King, operations director at The Yan, said: “We’re absolutely blown away to have made the UK’s top 100 local restaurants for the second year running.

"It’s a real honour and a credit to every one of the fantastic team we have here at The Yan."

The business is currently celebrating its fifth anniversary in a year that has already seen the family-owned restaurant receive recognition for its work.

They triumphed as Cumbria’s Best Casual Dining Restaurant at the Cumbria Tourism Awards, as well as securing a Bronze Award for Best Ethical, Responsible, and Sustainable Tourism business at the national Visit England Awards for Excellence.

Georgina added: "And of course, it’s made even more special to be partly based on reader nominations – those lovely guests and diners who have been fabulous enough to share their feedback and experiences of The Yan.

"Their support, backed up by reviews from independent inspectors at the Good Food Guide, genuinely means the world to us.”

The Guide commended the Yan for its combination of good food, friendly service, and a spectacular view that can only be gained in the Lake District.

Inspectors commented: "The Yan dining room overlooks the fells of Helm Crag and Dunmail Raise, though the vibe feels more Scandi chic than Lakeland cosy.

"Herdwick lamb from the surrounding fields appears in several guises: as a rib with Cajun-spiced sweetcorn purée; minted and wrapped in cured ham with pea mash; and best of all, the signature shepherd’s pie, in which the meat, (slowly braised to fall-apart tenderness) is topped with gorgeously smooth and soft cheesy mash.”
