Say hello to one of the Cumbrian natives who has made it into Team GB for the Paris Olympics 2024.

Fiona Crackles, 24, will be appearing in her second consecutive Olympics when she represents the nation as part of the women's hockey side.

Originally from Kirkby Lonsdale, Fiona only made her debut four years, featuring in Great Britain's 1-1 draw with The Netherlands in the FIH Hockey Pro League on October 27, 2020.

Just eight months later, the former Queen Elizabeth School pupil was named in the 16-player Team GB Women’s squad in the Tokyo Olympics.

In Japan, she would help her team earn a bronze medal, though she will be hoping that they can go at least one step further this time around.

That victory came about following a thrilling clash with India, with Team GB winning 4-3 to secure a third place position.

This marked the first time that Great Britain's men or women had ever recorded three successive hockey medals at the Olympic Games.

The glory did not stop there, with bronze soon followed by gold in 2022 in the Commonwealth Games, as well as a World Cup debut for Fiona.

For the hockey star, who still has so much of her career ahead of her, her Cumbria home played a crucial role in inspiring her.

Fiona said: "My first hockey experiences were my brothers, playing for Kirkby Lonsdale and my mum umpiring, so there was no other option but to go down to the pitch.

"When I started at Kirkby Lonsdale, a lot of my friends joined too and it was a great environment to be a part of and it was brilliant that all my friends played."

Team GB will start their Paris campaign on Sunday, July 28 with a game against Spain in Pool B.

This will be followed by clashes against Australia, South Africa, the USA and Argentina as they try to make it to the finals once again.
