WALKERS who were 'lost in the mist' assisted by a mountain rescue team.

Cumbria Police received a call on Saturday (July 20) after two walkers who were lost at Mickledore in Scafell Pike were attempting to descend to Wasdale Head.

The Team Leader of Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team gave advice and directions over the phone, which allowed the walkers to find a defined path.

A spokesperson for the mountain team said: "They later called back to confirm that no further assistance was needed and so this log was closed."

This was their third call of the day on Saturday (July 20) and their 91st incident of the year.

The duration of the call was 52 minutes.

Mountain rescuers have been promoting #BeAdventureSmart since 2019 to reduce the increasing workload on Cumbria’s 12 volunteer search and rescue teams.

The Adventure Smart campaign involves asking yourself three questions before going on an outdoor activity on the water or in the mountains: Do I have the necessary skills for the day? Have I checked the weather forecast? Do I have the right equipment?
