A school in Barrow has closed for the final time.
North Walney Primary and Nursery School sent off its pupils for the summer holidays on Friday, July 19, bringing to an end its long-standing place in the community.
We've taken a look back in The Mail archives to dig out some old pictures taken at the school over the years.
Towards the end of last year, Westmorland and Furness Council launched a consultation of the school to assess its continuing viability with fewer than 30 pupils walking its hallways.
A declining population on the island has meant that the school has been nowhere near its full capacity, which stands at 161 children.
With the financial position of the school impacted as a result, the decision was eventually reached to close North Walney down following a prolonged period of public consultation.
Therefore, it was an emotional day last week for everyone connected to the school, whether it be current pupils or staff, or people who have sat in those classrooms over the years.
A spokesperson from North Walney said: "Thank you to all those students, families and friends that have supported NWNPS on its journey throughout the years.
"As a staff, we have loved to watch our students grow in confidence, perseverance, resilience and maturity.
"We wish all our past students the very best for their future hopes and dreams and every success in their forged paths.
"And I’m sure, no matter where we are, we will always be North Walney Blue, through and through!"
Plenty of support was sent to the school following its last day with residents looking back on their time there.
One person commented: "[An] amazing school, we can't thank the teachers enough who have taught our boys over the years and gave them the great start in life."
Another added: "[It's] so saddening going past North Walney School grounds - four of my family went here, thank you for the dedicated years you teachers and staff gave to my children and grandchild."
