A special school in Ulverston held an inclusive celebration as they wished leavers the best.

Sixth form students at Sandside Lodge School celebrated their prom at the Old Mill at Bardsea on Thursday July 18.

Students and staff helped to plan and organise the event, including making decorations.

Assistant headteacher and special educational needs coordinator Rebecca Noble Gay said: “We saw family and friends of Sandside gather to welcome our students to their prom, some arriving in very fancy vehicles.

“All students enjoyed dressing up, sharing a lovely meal and spent the night dancing together.

“It was great for students and staff to celebrate, particularly for the school leavers, some of whom have been at Sandside for 16 years.

“We have a group of students who are moving onto Beaumont South lakes, some to Beaumont Lancaster and some are moving onto adult day services.

“Wishing them all the very best in their future.”

The special school caters to students between the ages of four and nineteen who have severe learning difficulties and additional needs such as Autism, physical difficulties, hearing or vision impairment and communication differences.
