Cumbria Fire and Rescue have provided more details following a crash that happened on the A590 yesterday.

Two people were taken to hospital with 'serious injuries' following the road traffic collision that took place near Newby Bridge.

The road was closed for a number of hours and reopened just after midnight.

A spokesperson from Cumbria Fire said: "At 5.57pm on July 22, two fire engines from Grange and Ulverston attended an incident in Backbarrow, Ulverston.

"One casualty was released from the vehicle with critical injuries by fire personnel, and the casualty was transported by air ambulance to Preston Hospital.

"A secondary casualty has been transported by road ambulance to Furness Hospital."

Crews were in attendance for one hour and 25 minutes.
