The largest full-service marina on Lake Windermere has completed a £4 million redevelopment project.

The revamp, at Windermere Marina Village, south of Bowness-on-Windermere within the Lake District National Park, was spearheaded by Marina Projects.

The primary goal of the redevelopment was to overhaul the existing traditional fixed timber jetty structures, replacing them with advanced floating pontoon equipment, with the aim of combatting the recurring threat of flooding, which has only been exacerbated by global climate change.

Transitioning to floating pontoons allows the marina to lessen the risk of future flood events in extended periods of high rainfall.

General manager Dan Fairweather said: "The new marina provides our customers with the modern berthing facility that they deserve.

"The improvements cannot be understated, removing the risk of flood events through the introduction of high-quality berthing facilities within the sheltered confines of our marina basin."

With 337 berths, the marina caters to both annual berth holders and visitors.

It includes a fuel berth, slipway, and boatyard facilities for servicing vessels, as well a amenities for customers and property owners.

The shower-block was also recently refurbished in 2023 for all mooring holders.

The marina also offers luxury self-catering accommodation in the village of Bowness-on-Windermere.

The property options range from dog-friendly lodgings to group accommodations and family holiday spots.

Built with traditional Lakeland materials, the modern properties feature waterside views.

The Boathouse Bar & Restaurant has also seen a wide-scale refurbishment under new management, serving as a spot for guests to enjoy a meal or a drink while looking out on the boats.
