A DALTON man has been given a suspended sentence and a driving ban after he led police on a drug-fuelled car chase.

Christian Brand, of King Street, appeared before South Cumbria Magistrates in Barrow on July 18.

Brand, 28, was charged with driving a Ford Fiesta ST on Stainton Drive while over the specified limit for a controlled drug - namely Benzoylecgonine.

The court register states that the offence was so serious that only a custodial sentence can be justified as he created a police chase 'whilst intoxicated through drugs.'

Brand was given a 24-week sentence suspended for 24 months because he was employed, he agreed a plan for drug rehabilitation, he has a mortgage and he has an ongoing relationship with his young daughter.

He has been banned from driving for 36 months.
