TWO people have been accused of two charges related to causing unnecessary suffering to a dog, and another charge related to animal welfare.

Anthony Collingwood, 25, and Chantelle Fitzpatrick, 28, both of Egerton Court, Barrow, have been accused of causing unnecessary suffering to a 'Staffordshire bull terrier type dog' called Patch on Coal Clough Lane in Burnley on or before August 22 2022.

The charges allege that they 'failed to act, namely to investigate and address the causes of his poor bodily condition and weight loss.'

Between August 18-23 of that year they are also alleged to have failed to provide 'proper and necessary veterinary care and attention for his ear infection and wounds.'

The final charge alleges that on August 22 at Coal Clough Lane they did not protect Patch, a white female lurcher type called Luna and a female terrier type dog called Star' from pain, suffering, injury and disease due to lack of protecting them from fleas, need for an appropriate diet, fresh water and for adequate care and supervision.

The duo will appear at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court on Monday, July 22.
