A Barrow pre-school held a special event to celebrate one of its teachers' 20th year working there.

The Old Vicarage Day Nursery marked this milestone with a fun-filled festival themed party for Rachel Spencer, a well-respected early years educator.

This celebration, dubbed 'Vicfest', took place at the nursery on Hartington Street in Barrow.

The event was attended by all the pupils of the Robins class and was filled with games, activities, music and a burst of team spirit.

Mrs Spencer began her journey at the Old Vicarage in July 2004, and in her two-decade-long career, she has been a role model for hundreds of children.

As a pre-school teacher, Mrs Spencer is responsible for the curriculum of the oldest age group, showcasing creativity and innovation that makes learning a fun process.

In a speech to commemorate the occasion, company director, Denise Rowley, said: "Rachel brings a passion and originality to the classroom that puts her at the very top of her field.

"Every week Rachel holds a different themed day or celebration to teach the children something new, something they might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience or simply something they will be excited to try."

Mrs Rowley went on to highlight several examples such as cultural festival activities including Burns Night and Diwali, unique themed days like Royal Ascot Racing Day or International Nurses Day, and sports day events like Wimbledon Day.

Mrs Spencer enjoyed her special day with her class of Robins, engaging in plenty of singing, dancing and games.

Reflecting on her two decade-long journey, she said: "I have got so many wonderful memories over the years and have been lucky to work with a great group of people, many of whom are now good friends.

"I love my job and the greatest joy is being able to help children learn and grow, developing new interests and bonds with their peers."

During her time at the Old Vicarage, Mrs Spencer has not only been an inspiring educator but also a mentor for many apprentices.

"Most recently my Level 2 qualified teaching assistant Will, who is due to qualify as an Early Years Educator in 2025.

"It was fantastic to hold Vicfest with Will, who is a highly talented practitioner and has a very bright career ahead of him" she elaborated.

Mrs Spencer has recently accepted the position of SENCO at the Old Vicarage, providing assurance that she will continue delivering her passion and love towards child education for the coming years.
