Brisbane Park Infant School in Barrow has received the results of its latest Ofsted inspection.

The school, on Blake Street, has been rated ‘Good’ across all areas.

Inspectors visited the school for the first time in over four years on June 25, 2024.

Ofsted assessed behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management and early years provision.

The report said there are high expectations for pupils’ behaviour and that the school’s vision is to help the children build up their self-belief.

Pupils are described as ‘well-mannered and caring’. Ofsted said the children in Reception quickly learn the importance of the school rules.

Inspectors credited the school’s clear rules and routines in helping to create calm classrooms in which pupils are able to focus on their learning.

The school is ambitious for pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).

The inspection found that the range of experiences the school provides, helps the children to become confident and independent.

They said: “This helps pupils to feel happy at school.”

Under ways to improve, the report pointed out a small number of areas where the school has not identified what important knowledge staff need to teach.

As a result, some pupils are not as well prepared for the demands of the Year 1 curriculum as they could be.

Across many subjects, Ofsted found pupils had built up a ‘deep body of knowledge’ and were well prepared for the next stage of education.

The report said: “High-quality training enables many staff to deliver the curriculum effectively across a number of subjects. In most subjects, teachers use assessment information to identify and address any gaps in knowledge that pupils have.”

It continues to say that in one or two subjects, some of the activities provided for pupils do not build on what they already know or deepen their knowledge. As a result, in these subjects, some pupils do not learn as well as they could.
