PLANS to convert a grade II listed building in Ulverston into an aparthotel have been given the green light.
Westmorland and Furness Council has granted a certificate of lawfulness to Cameron Investment Group Ltd for the conversion of the Lonsdale House Hotel on Daltongate into an aparthotel.
The proposed development will see the internal reconfiguration of the Georgian townhouse, which has 19 bedrooms, to deliver 13 suites.
Planning documents state: “The property will remain in single ownership with suites being available to book at a nightly rate. In addition, the gardens and lower-ground floor of the building will be used for purposes ancillary to the hotel use.
“This could include use as a wedding venue or event space – such uses would only take place in connection with the occupancy of the suites in the aparthotel.”
Previously plans from Cameron Investment Group had been approved in 2023 to convert the hotel into supported accommodation, and plans in 2021 to convert the hotel into residential accommodation were given the green light in 2021.
According to plans physical works have commenced in line with the 2023 listed building consent, including alterations to the internal layout of the building and renovation works to the exterior, including the repair and replacement of windows – as approved by the Council.
The building was built for the Fell family in 1787 before they moved to Flan How around 1870.
It was then a boarding school before becoming club rooms at the very end of the 19th century and it then became a hotel in 1950s.
The certificate of lawfulness was granted on July 15.
