A Cumbrian teen has demonstrated his culinary prowess by reaching the finals of the Rotary Young Chef Competition 2024.
Harry Townley, a Lakes School pupil, navigated four rounds to book his place in the national final in April, sponsored by Italian food colossus Filippo Berio and hosted at St Benedict’s High School, Alcester.
The young chef, backed by Rotary Ambleside and Kirkstone, put a modern spin on traditional British cuisine for the last stage of the contest.
Kicking off with rack of lamb, pomme puree, roasted beetroot, and braised cabbage, accompanied by red wine reduction, Mr Townley polished his performance with a delightful sponge chocolate pudding, alongside chocolate sauce and raspberry coulis.
Mr Townley was challenged to perfect and serve his final dish within two hours during the grand showdown.
The panel of judges comprised Lisa Mullins, Filippo Berio's marketing manager and a long-time supporter of Rotary young chef, and Elaine Wroblewska, a lecturer at the Heart of Worcestershire College.
A spokesperson from Rotary Ambleside and Kirkstone said: "Harry should be very proud of himself for making the final of the Rotary Young Chef Awards.
"Competition is always fierce, so to make it to the final six is testament to his talent and passion in the kitchen."
The Rotary Young Chef competition, open to 11 to 17-year-olds, has been spot lighting young culinary talent in Great Britain and Ireland for more than 15 years.
Each year sees hundreds of hopefuls nominated by Rotary Clubs cross two countries vying to clinch the title.
