A road in Dalton has been forced to close after a burst water main damaged the surface.

Westmorland and Furness Council shared on Tuesday night (July 16) that Coronation Drive would be blocked from public use following the incident.

Network North, who are working on behalf of United Utilities, were said to have worked through the night in an attempt to manage the situation.

However, due to the severity of the damage, locals were advised that the road 'may be closed for the next two to three days'.

A diversion route is in place via Greystoke Lane, Hollygate Road, Newton Road, and Long Lane.

The council confirmed that Stagecoach and the emergency services have been made aware of this road closure and diversion route.

Additional signage and barriers have been erected within the road closure area to ensure public safety.
