A MIX-up on the official House of Commons website saw an image of Nigel Farage under the name of south Cumbrian MP Tim Farron.

The Liberal Democrat MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale was accidentally pictured as the Reform leader.

A spokesperson from the House of Commons said: "Due to a technical issue, a small number of official portraits were initially uploaded incorrectly. The issue has now been resolved."

Mr Farron joked on X, formerly known as Twitter: "We are taking our continued commitment to infiltrating other parties in order to bring them to ruin, to a new level"

This was in reference to the former Prime Minister Liz Truss, who was a Liberal Democrat before becoming a Conservative and ultimately leading the country for just 45 days in 2022.

Mr Farage has taken his seat as an MP for the first time after this year's General Election. He now represents Clacton-on-Sea in Essex following a long career of campaigning outside Westminster.

Mr Farron said: "We are incredibly dissimilar." Despite this, they will both be on the opposition benches, to which Mr Farron added: "The best governments are the ones with the best opposition."

About the mix-up, Mr Farron said: "It's easy to make mistakes - I think it's very funny. How it happened I have no idea."

Mr Farron has been the Westmorland and Lonsdale MP since 2005, and was re-elected by the third largest margin in the UK - or the biggest one that was not a Labour win.

Mr Farage also won by a comfortable margin, gaining 21,225 votes and beating Conservative Giles Watling.
