A TRAIN that derailed in Grange has been moved across the country to be fixed.

Residents took photos of the front unit of the train being hauled out of Ulverston.

It came off the track on March 22 but was too damaged to be moved back to a depot via rail.

The unit then began its four hour journey south on the back of a lorry on July 10. Northern confirmed that it went to Gemini Rail Services in Wolverton, near Milton Keynes.

A spokesperson said: "The extent of the damage is being assessed and we will be starting talks imminently with engineering specialists who can carry out the repair work.

“We are working to get the unit back into service for customers as soon as possible.”

The derailment closed the Furness Line for a month and the Rail Accident Investigation Branch is currently examining why the train came off the track.
