A new 'companionship cafe' service is launching in south Cumbria at the end of the month.

Organised by Home Instead South Lakes, the cafe is designed to provide a space for isolated and elderly people to meet up and find others to talk to.

The inaugural session will take place on Wednesday, July 31 between 1.30pm and 3pm at St Thomas' Church, providing hot drinks, scones and a good natter for anyone who needs it.

A spokesperson from Home Instead said: "Our caring Community Angels, who are also our amazing care professionals, will be there to chat, lend an ear, and provide valuable insights on local activities and support groups.

"The new Companionship Cafe will be supported by East ICC Case Management Team who can help patients by providing personalised support to individuals, enabling them to take control of their wellbeing, live independently and improve their health outcomes reducing the need for hospital services."
