A new festival celebrating a town in south Cumbria has been branded as a big success following its debut.

Millom Fest arrived in the county for the first time on Saturday, July 6, taking place at Millom RLFC with a number of local businesses and organisations lending a hand to make the occasion possible.

The festival committee originally cooked up plans for the event back in June, which means it has been a quick turn around to put on a 'day to remember' for residents and visitors alike.

Sarah Sharpe, one of the people behind Millom Fest, said: "Thanks to all that took the time to come and enjoy the day.

"Millom Fest Committee is overjoyed by the successful outcome of the event and is thrilled by all the people who chose to spend their day off celebrating Millom Fest.

"Thank you to all who have shown support over this weekend, and we hope you had a spectacular day."

Sarah also shared her gratitude for CGP and 'Everyone Here', who provided the funding to get the festival off the ground, and the numerous local musicians who lent their talents to provide the atmosphere on the day.

"Q Scaffolding very kindly and skillfully put up our stage and what an awesome stage it was," Sarah added.

"Millom RLFC allowed us to put our event on their well-maintained grounds and supported us massively, whilst HMP Haverigg supplied their men to help with putting up the stalls.

"Millom Fest would not have happened had it not been for these people."

The Haverigg Inshore Rescue Team described it as a 'great event' and revealed on Thursday that, through their participation, they had received £168.16 in donations.

More money was received by the Millom and Around the Combe Community Group (MACCG), with £312 going towards its start-up fund that will hopefully ensure Millom Fest is not a one time spectacle.
