MEET the winner of The Mail's Best Hairdresser or Barber - as voted by readers.

In June The Mail launched a new award to celebrate this ever-growing industry.

Our readers were involved, nominating their favourite local businesses, the places that deliver the finest haircuts and with the most talented hands.

Following this, ten finalists were revealed to the public who then had the final say.

By picking up copies of the newspaper, people across south Cumbria were able to show their support for their favourite hairdresser or barber.

To help the process and to further celebrate the nominated businesses, The Mail released individual articles on each of them to showcase what they all have to offer.

And we can now reveal that, after two weeks of voting, the winner of the 'Best Hairdresser or Barber 2024' is 6th Avenue Hair and Beauty.

The Ulverston-based salon is owned by Natalie Simpson, 30, who set up the business three years ago.

Reacting to the news Natalie said she was 'not really expecting' to win the competition.

The hairdresser said winning the competition 'might entice more clients' as they have had more people coming in since the competition started.

"It means a lot," she said. "Hairdressing has always been my passion, especially as we only opened three years ago."

To the other businesses that were part of the competition, she said: "They are all really good salons. I have read all their write-ups. I know some of them which is nice."

Natalie said they will keep running the business as it is but are looking for new staff members including stylists and nail technicians.

"Hopefully we will have more people working in my salon," she said.

For aspiring hairdressers, she leaves a piece of advice: "Never give up on your dreams. No matter how hard they get you have always got to keep pushing through."
