A VOLUNTEER emergency responder has raised over £500 for a local lifesaving charity by cycling from Cumbria to Croatia.

Dr Chris Moss embarked on the epic 1,359-mile journey of 18,288m of vertical assent to raise funds for Beep Doctors, a lifesaving charity in Cumbria who work alongside the North West Ambulance Service and NWAAS to support complex incidents across the county.

The route saw Chris travel across Europe from Holland, Germany, Austria and Slovenia through Italy before finishing in Split, Croatia.

Despite bike repairs, a major incident and flooding problems, Chris managed to successfully complete the arduous challenge in just 17 days between May 27 - June 12.

“Cycling is a true passion of mine,” Chris said.

“It’s a very special way to see the world. There is nothing better than getting on your bike, feeling the wind rushing through your hair and releasing a big burst of endorphins to make you feel great.

“I’m passionate about the work Beep Doctors do across the community and this trip has been a fabulous way to not only raise some money but also raise the profile of the charity, who are often unheard of until you are unconscious on the roadside.

Jo Blackburn, Operations Manager at Beep Doctors, said: “Whilst we all adore a slice of birthday cake, we wanted to celebrate our three decades of service by sharing the joy of cycling with you and our local community.

“We are the only volunteer medical charity in Cumbria where every penny goes to support the work of the service.”

The challenge was part of the charity's Pedal for Life campaign as Beep Doctors celebrate their 30th anniversary this year

“Throughout the months of May and June, we launched our Pedal for Life campaign, aiming to inspire as many people as possible to hop on their bikes. From leisurely rides to challenging expeditions, we hope it’s been something that inspired everyone.

“Chris is a much-valued Beep Doctor responder and trustee. It’s amazing to see the efforts that Chris went to cycling across Europe.”

In total, Chris managed to raise £554 for charity on his JustGiving website.
