Pictures of the first soapbox kart have been revealed as team's register for the Barrow's big race next month.

There's around six weeks to go until the event on August 19 which will see teams race to set the fastest lap time down the obstacle-filled track.

Sponsored by BAE Systems, Ørsted and Barrow Town Council, the event will start around 10am with soapbox kart no.1 setting off down the course using only gravity to set the first time of the day.

Last year, just over 30,000 people lined Barrow's high street  around the 340m course with similar numbers anticipated this year.

This year's route will finish near the Townhouse at the bottom of Dalton Road with the top area of Dalton Road behind the launch ramp transformed into the pit area.

Large screen TVs along the course will show all the action including the karts navigating the phenomenal GrimeFighters splash zone.
