A TAKEAWAY has been handed a new food hygiene rating. 

Zest Bistro, a takeaway at 43 Crellin Street, in Barrow, was given a score of three out of five, the Food Standards Agency's website shows.

The rating was given after an assessment on May 29 by local inspectors from Westmorland and Furness Council.

This means inspectors found the place to be 'Generally Satisfactory'.

The hygienic handling of food including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage was found to be 'Generally Satisfactory'.

Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control, to enable good food hygiene was found to be 'Generally Satisfactory'.

The management of food safety which includes evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future was rated 'Good'.

Westmorland and Furness's 225 takeaways with ratings, 153 (68%) have ratings of five and none have zero ratings.
