The 'Barrow mini police' carried out a thorough litter pick yesterday (July 3) in the Holbeck area.

Students from Yarlside Academy in Roose accompanied Police Community Support Officer 5429 for the task.

The weather was cold and windy however this didn't stop the team of 13 pupils working hard.

After donning their police jackets, caps, hi-vis vests and lanyards, they set out to clear the area for rubbish.

Litter pickers, bin hoops and bin bags were kindly provided by Elaine at the Round House Hub and Cafe in in Walney

According to a post created on the Barrow police Facebook page, the pupils managed to collect three whole binbags worth of rubbish.

Members of the local community came out to thank the school children for their contribution.

Barrow Park Run Junior commented to say: "Thank you so much for your excellent work"

One man said: "How kind of them" whilst Westmorland and Furness Council Thriving Communities added: "Massive well done and thanks to you all!"
