A repeat musical performance of the story of Furness Abbey will take place due to a popular demand.

The concert by the Dorian Players entitled 'In the Vale of Deadly Nightshade' tells the story of Furness Abbey from its founding in the 12th century until its dissolution under Henry VIII.

Told in words and music, it covers the life of the monks and lay brothers and tells of its growth into one of the most powerful abbeys in the country.

It also looks at the world events that took place during its lifetime and its eventual closure in the 16th century.

In the same fashion as the first performance, the singers and players will be in costume and will play instruments that are replicas of instruments of this time period.

Alison Bolt, of the Dorian Players, said: "Its first performance in Ulverston was a sell-out and the players are putting it on again as some people were unable to go and others wish to see it again.

"This time it will be in Cartmel Priory on Friday 12th July, starting at 7.30pm, and wine and soft drinks will be served during the interval.

"It is such an appropriate venue as Cartmel Priory is mentioned in the story and was fortunate to escape the same fate as Furness Abbey due to its having a role as a Parish Church."
