A SALON owner says her team deserves to win the competition to find the Best Hairdresser or Barber 'for many reasons'.

On Monday (June 10) The Mail launched the award with readers nominating their favourite to make the coveted shortlist.

Coco Hair and Beauty on 202 Dalton Road in Barrow has been selected as one of the top ten finalists by the readers.

Jo Grainger has been in business for 19 years and opened the salon 11 years ago.

She said: "The salon is going from strength to strength and we are constantly evolving, introducing new and exciting services."

Jo, who has been hairdressing for 36 years, said she was 'delighted' when she received the news her business had made it to the top 10.

"What an amazing surprise when we found out. This is the second award we have been nominated for this month. It is very exciting," she said.

"The whole team are really appreciative of the nominations and lovely comments. We love that our clients voted for us. Thank you so much from us all."

When asked about why she thinks she should win the competition, Jo said: "I think we deserve to win for many reasons. Myself and my team are always going above and beyond to ensure our clients have a wonderful, professional, caring experience in both salons, every single time they step through the door.

"We are always upgrading our skills, learning the latest colouring and cutting techniques that are ever-changing in this industry.

"As a salon owner, I make sure we have all up-to-date, essential and luxury products for hair care and for our colouring and blonding services. We are a Goldwell flagship salon, we have a full portfolio of Goldwell colour, there is literally something for everyone's hair type, or if you have sensitivities to colour or any distinctive colours, we can accommodate."

Readers can vote for their favourite finalist by picking up a newspaper copy until Saturday, July 6.

After this final voting stage has concluded, the winner will be crowned as The Mail's 'Hairdresser or Barber 2024' during the week commencing Monday, July 15.

Tom Murphy, head of digital at Newsquest Cumbria, said: "Remember to pick up a copy of The Mail to give your favourite a chance to win."
