THE owner of a barber shop said she was 'surprised and extremely pleased' to be in the final 10 of a Furness-wide competition run by The Mail.
The Barber's Shop, on Upper Brook Street in Ulverston, employs five members of staff. Owner Sandra Buck said there had probably been a barber in the building for the last century - she has spent 27 years in the business.
"Our customers are at the forefront of our business," she said. "We've got a big age gap of customers from children to 80 or 90 year olds.
"It's not just cutting hair. We care about our customers," she added. "I have been here 27 years, I would like to think the majority of our customers have become our friends. We care about our customers we are generally always here."
Sandra said when the business reopened after Covid people praised 'how much care they took in customer safety.'
When asked what their most popular cut is, Sandra said many young men are asking for skin fades as it is in fashion at the moment.
In terms of the final, she said: "Hopefully we will get a few votes - you never know."
After this final voting stage has concluded, the winner will be crowned as The Mail's 'Hairdresser or Barber 2024' during the week commencing Monday, July 15.
Tom Murphy, head of digital at Newsquest Cumbria, said: "Remember to pick up a copy of The Mail to give your favourite a chance to win."
