PLANS have been lodged to convert a ‘redundant’ carpet shop into a house of multiple occupancy (HMO) in Barrow.

Waseem Malik has submitted a planning application to convert a former carpet shop on Buccleuch Street into an 11-bedroom HMO.

According to planning documents, the three-storey terraced property will be divided to create 11 bedrooms with all bedrooms having their own en-suite bathroom.

Plans add there is a spacious communal area including kitchen/dining space which includes a living area.

According to a management statement there are ‘plenty of parking spaces’ on Buccleuch Street and Allison Street. Cycle storage will also be provided within the building.

The management statement says there will be a number of policies and measures to manage any potential issues.

It adds: “The security measures proposed should give reassurance to the occupants and the neighbours that the safety of the area will not suffer as a result of the proposal.

“The information that will be provided to the tenants along with signed antisocial behaviour policies should ensure that the tenant presence will not have a detrimental effect on the neighbourhood, especially regarding issues relating noise and nuisance.”

The application is currently undergoing public consultation.
