A community group in south Cumbria has been celebrating a landmark birthday this week.
The Grasmere Women's Institute (GWI) marked 105 years of service from its base at the Allan Bank National Trust House on Monday, June 24.
The organisation was born in 1919 in the kitchen at Winterseeds in Grasmere when the Badley sisters made the decision to start a local enterprise.
A spokesperson from the group commented: "We have so much to thank the Badley sisters for and we are sure they would be very proud of what GWI has become and all we do.
"We now have over 70 members, five Westmorland County Show and Agricultural Society trophies, we have raised over £35,000 for St Mary's Hospice, ticked off the 214 Wainwrights and almost 200 tarns, we have a really exciting and action packed monthly programme and much more.
"A huge thank you to all at GWI for carrying on the Badley sisters’ legacy in such fine style."
