THE most reported crimes around Barrow in April this year have been revealed.

The most up-to-date figures, from April 2024, show violence and sexual offences were the most commonly reported crime across all neighbourhood policing areas of Barrow.

Split into Cumbria Constabulary’s force area, data from police.uk revealed Barrow Central and Hindpool, Barrow Island and Walney, Parkside, Hawcoat and Ormsgill and Salthouse, Newbarns and Roose, which together make up the whole of Barrow, all reported more violence and sexual offences crimes than any other.

In total, 531 crimes were committed across Barrow in April this year – a marginal decrease from the 597 offences committed in April 2023.

The most recent statistics are from April because the information takes time to collate.

Officers were called out to 69 crimes of violence and sexual offences in the area of Barrow Central and Hindpool. Anti-social behaviour offences were closely followed in the second most popular of offences for this district with 64 offences recorded.

Criminal damage and arson offences totalled 26 whilst there were 24 shoplifting crimes reported and 16 instances of drugs.

Other reported crimes included public order (9), burglary (7), other theft (6), possession of weapons (3), theft from a person (1), bicycle theft (1) and other crime (1).

In April this year, Barrow Island and Walney saw 79 overall crimes recorded.

Similarly, the most reported crimes were for violence and sexual offences, totalling 36. This was followed by 14 offences of anti-social behaviour and seven offences of both public order and ‘other crime’.

Other crimes reported on the website were criminal damage and arson (5), other theft (3), drugs (2), possession of weapons (2), robbery (1), shoplifting (1) and vehicle crime (1).

The district of Parkside, Hawcoat and Ormsgill saw a total of 85 crimes – a decrease of eight from April last year.

There were 39 crimes of violence and sexual offences, 11 offences of anti-social behaviour, eight reports of public order and a further seven instances of criminal damage and arson.

Vehicle crime totalled five offences, whilst four offences of drugs and ‘other theft’ were reported.

In addition, police dealt with two instances of ‘other crime’, shoplifting and burglary, as well as a single offence of possession of weapons.

Finally, police dealt with 140 overall crimes in the district of Salthouse, Newbarns and Roose.

Following a similar pattern, there were 73 callouts to violence and sexual offences, 19 to reports of anti-social behaviour and a further 12 to criminal damage and arson.

There were also eight public order offences, seven for drugs and six for ‘other crime’.

Other reported crimes included other theft (5), shoplifting (4), vehicle crime (3), robbery (1), possession of weapons (1) and burglary (1).
