A HAIRDRESSER said her salon 'deserves' to win The Mail's competition to find the Best Hairdresser or Barber of 2024.

On Monday (June 10) we launched the award with readers nominating their favourite to make the coveted shortlist.

6th Avenue Hair and Beauty on Brogden Street, Ulverston, has been selected as one of the top ten finalists by readers.

The business is owned by Natalie Simpson, 30, who set up the salon three years ago.

She said: "I was in shock. We only opened three years ago.

"We are getting better and bigger. We have quite a few costumes."

When asked about why she thinks she should win the competition, Natalie said: "We are a really good salon and we have got really good hairdressers in it and we all deserve it."

The business currently has 10 hairdressers who are from Barrow, Coniston and Ulverston.

Natalie said it had always been a dream to open her own salon since she began training as a teen. She has been a hairdresser for 12 years.

Readers will now be able to vote for their favourite finalist by picking up a copy of the newspaper until Saturday, July 6.

After this final voting stage has concluded, the winner will be crowned as The Mail's 'Hairdresser or Barber 2024' during the week commencing Monday, July 15.

6th Avenue Hair and Beauty is the second of the ten shortlisted establishments we will be featuring over the coming issues to show our readers what they have to offer.

Tom Murphy, head of digital at Newsquest Cumbria, said: "Remember to pick up a copy of The Mail to give your favourite a chance to win."
