Coastguards were deployed to three people in the water after their kayak overturned this morning (June 24).

Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team said they, Furness Coastguard, rescue helicopter 199 from Prestwick, and other local emergency services were called out to Windermere to help.

“We were relieved to learn that the casualties were soon safely in the hands of the Windermere Lake Wardens,” a Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team spokesperson said.

They added: “With everyone accounted for and safe, the Whitehaven team was stood down en route, allowing nearby services to conclude the situation.

“As the fine weather and summer holidays approach, we want to remind everyone about the importance of being properly prepared when engaging in water-based activities, whether on our lakes or along the coast.

“Always wear a Personal Flotation Device (PFD) and ensure you have a means of contacting emergency services in case of any issues.”
