A primary school in Grange-over-Sands is on a hunt for a historic key.
Cartmel CE Primary School’s Parent-Teacher Association have teamed up with Cartmel Peninsula Local History Society (CPLHS) to locate a key of great significance in the history of their school playground.
The search forms part of plans to renew the area.
Researcher Pat Rowland of CPLHS uncovered that a special key was presented to Mrs Frederick Barker, who hailed from Longlands, at the opening of the playground in 1898.
It was thanks to Mrs Barker's encouragement that the playground came into existence.
The key was "very handsome with a silver floral design with Jubilee crown and bearing the inscription Cartmel Jubilee Playground, June 20th 1898", old newspaper reports describe.
The school, in collaboration with CPLHS, is seeking any information on both this historic key and Mrs Barker as part of their Alumni Celebrations on Saturday, July 6.
The event organisers, who welcome past pupils, staff and governors, plan a summer picnic, a history exhibition and school tours.
For additional information, the Facebook page 'Cartmel Primary School Alumni' is available.
Anyone with information about the historic key or Mrs Barker should reach out to CPLHS at alumni@cartmel.cumbria.sch.uk.
