THE petrol station at Barrow's Morrisons will reopen as Motor Fuel Group (MFG) as part of a £2.5bn deal announced earlier this year.

It will close for six days from June 30 to July 5 before reopening under the new brand. On June 28-30 it will be pay at the pump only and card only payment at the kiosk.

Morrisons boss Rami Baitiéh said customers would get 'the best value at the pump, in our convenience stores and in our supermarkets.'

Customers can still use their More card to earn points on fuel but other benefits will no longer be available at the petrol station.

In January, Morrisons entered into an agreement relating to the proposed acquisition by MFG of 337 of the petrol forecourts (including fuel, convenience retail kiosk and ancillary services).

As part of the deal, MFG will invest and install Ultra-Rapid EV charging infrastructure across all sites acquired by the company.

It aims to build 800 150kW EV charges in hubs within the next five years alone. These chargers can add 100 miles of range in around 10 minutes.

Mr Baitiéh, chief executive officer of Morrisons, said: "As the needs of the customer continue to evolve, Morrisons and MFG’s partnership will see us combine  our respective expertise and resources to deliver the best value for customers at the pump, in our  convenience stores and in our supermarkets.

"It means Morrisons customers will continue to see a competitive and attractive forecourt offering, including expanded access to EV charging, while also benefitting from greater focus on investment in Morrisons’ core food business."

The boss of MFG William Bannister said: "This strategic  acquisition, and the resulting partnership with the highly respected Morrisons brand, is the next major  growth investment for MFG. It is anchored in the potential for us to accelerate the roll-out of Ultra-Rapid  EV charging infrastructure across the UK while also giving customers a first-class retail offer."

The main Morrisons store will remain open throughout. There were no compulsory redundancies made as part of the deal with all staff on the forecourt being a provided with an in-store position with the same pay and employment terms, the retailer claims.
