A HIKER walking with his family in the Lake District had to be stretchered down the fell after slipping and injuring his ankle.
All three of Coniston Mountain Rescue Team's Land Rovers were deployed to Levers Water dam, and then the team walked up from there to Sam Bottom, on the west flank of Black Sails.
A spokesperson from the team said: "The casualty was assessed, pain relief given, the ankle splinted and he was then carried on our stretcher down to the vehicles. We then drove him down into Coniston to meet the family car for onward transit to Furness General Hospital." 16 volunteer team members attended, and a guest member from Rossendale and Pendle MRT who happened to be training with the Coniston team on that day.
