AFTER a dreary few months of wind and rain, Cumbria will finally see some rays of sunshine and warm temperatures according to meteorologists.

The fine weather will start on Sunday, but temperatures will rise on Monday until Wednesday.

Temperatures in Barrow will hit 22 degrees Celsius on Wednesday after three days of sunshine and Carlisle will reach 23 degrees. Lake District towns Keswick and Windermere will hover around 21-22 degrees.

Dan Rudman, Met Office meteorologist, said: "For much of the UK this will be accompanied by a boost in temperatures with many places reaching the mid-20s."

Some other parts of the UK may reach the threshold to experience heatwave conditions.

“However, whether or not everyone experiences heatwave thresholds, the majority of the UK will experience the highest temperatures so far this year," Mr Rudman said.

Unfortunately, the fine weather will not last.

“Confidence in the forecast reduces markedly from Wednesday onwards, with uncertainty in both how long the heat will last and how it will break down, which we will be keeping an eye on for the coming days. However, by next weekend, cooler, changeable conditions become more likely," Mr Rudman said.
