BAE Systems has lodged plans to carry out repairs to a grade II listed building in Barrow.
The company has applied to Westmorland and Furness Council for listed building consent to carry out repairs to BAE’s building A43 on Michaelson Road.
According to planning documents the proposed repairs would have a ‘negligible visual impact’ on the building but will ‘greatly improve’ its design life.
Proposals include repairing and replacing slate tiles, removing obsolete roof penetrations and repairing the rainwater collection system.
According to the design and access statement, the slate roof covering is generally in ‘poor condition’ with many slipped and missing slates. Plans add the guttering on the front elevation requires maintenance works or replacement.
The design and access statement adds: “The predominant reason for listing building A43 is its contribution to the industrial scene by its roadside elevations alongside Bridge Road and Michaelson Road in Barrow Island.”
This application is currently undergoing public consultation.
