A new, community art project in Ulverston is aiming to design and build a miniature replica of the market town.
The Coronation Hall is launching Model Town Ulverston, a project that aims to recreate the buildings, streets and landmarks in a unique, miniature carbon copy of the town.
Residents are being invited to join in with the special project and contribute to the ‘walk around’ town, which will go on display at the Coro in August.
The centre’s art leader Amy Whelan is hoping to encourage local businesses, schools and organisations to get involved by making tiny versions of their own buildings.
Amy is hoping to run several drop-in workshops between July 29 and August 3 where all materials will be provided, and she will be on hand to provide artistic assistance to anyone taking part.
The Coro’s monthly craft club on will also be dedicated to the project, while families and individuals will be invited to create models of their homes, street or favourite place.
Amy said: “We want as many local people to get involved as possible so we have put together a special pack with suggestions, hints and tips about how to do it and what materials to use etc. Participants can either make their models themselves or it would be lovely to see them attend one of our workshops at which there will be lots of boxes, paper, cardboard and paints to use.
“It will be incredible to see the Coro’s main hall transformed into a miniature Ulverston and see the many different ways people interpret the unique character of this amazing town we are lucky to call home."
