A BOY who was exploring Cathedral Quarry in a group was hospitalised after he fell down a scree slope. 

An organised party of youths were exploring the quarry, near Little Langdale, this morning (Wednesday).

He injured himself after falling down a slope next to the quarry. 

Langdale and Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team dispatched two Land Rovers to the scene, joining Coniston Mountain Rescue Team and a Great North Air Ambulance (Helimed 58) from Langwathby.

The air ambulance's paramedic crew took over the assessment of the boy. 

A spokesperson from Coniston Mountain Rescue Team said: "Eventually, it was decided to assist him down to our Land Rover on the track below, as his injuries were not as serious as initially thought. We drove him back to our base to be met by a land ambulance.

"He was further assessed before being transported by NW Ambulance Service to Furness General Hospital to treat a potential wrist fracture."
