NEW spa facilities which include a hot tub and a bar could be coming to a four-star hotel in the Lake District.
English Lakes Hotels has submitted a planning application to the Lake District National Park Authority (LDNPA) to construct a spa facility at the Wild Boar Hotel on Crook Road near Windermere.
The proposed spa building would be located within the grounds of the hotel and will consist of a reception, treatment areas, changing areas, a pool, a sauna building, a hot tub and a bar for guests of the spa.
A planning statement says: “The proposed spa facilities will enhance and improve the quality of the experience for visitors, encourage an increase in the length of stay of overnight visitors and encourage year round sustainable tourism.
“The scheme is well-designed, so as to not have a negative impact on the character and appearance of the hotel site, the locality or the wider National Park.”
According to planning documents the proposed construction of the spa follows the removal of the existing garage block, sheds and cabins.
The planning statement adds: “Whilst the hotel maintains relatively strong occupancy rates, there is a need to enhance and improve the offer on site to ensure that the business remains sustainable in an extremely competitive market.
“The most effective way to achieve this is through diversifying the range of guest facilities available on site.”
The planning application was lodged with the LDNPA on June 13.
