This weekend, crowds have not let the weather dampen their spirits as they came out in force to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Another Fine Fest.

The popular multi-arts festival is running from Saturday June 14 to Monday June 16 and is taking place across two outdoor stages as well as within a multitude of partner venues.

The free, family-friendly festival is featuring DJs, bands, circus performers, artists, poets, magicians, festival traders, a whole host of food stops and a fairground for younger visitors.

To celebrate ten years of AFF, a parade took to the streets, made up of entertainers from The Bread and Butter company, a conga-line of people dressed up as a giant Colin the Caterpillar birthday cake and performers from the street band, Blast Furness.

Kev and Julie Bell made up two slices of Colin the Caterpillar, who wound his way through the streets spreading the party mood.

They said all credit for Colin went to Jennie Dennett and Rachael Weaver who organised the creation of the birthday caterpillar.

Over the course of two workshops, a 20-slice Colin was constructed using paper mâché and cardboard before being brought to live with paint and decoration.

Kev said: “It’s the best festival by far, we come every year, I’ve probably been to all ten!”

Julie said: “It’s about the community coming together, I love how people just carry on even in the rain. I’m looking forward to seeing the comedy, there’s some really good acts from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival on.”

Local business, Valley End Jewellery creates beautiful, handmade, silver pieces in their Ulverston craft room and sells from stalls at festivals and events throughout the year as well as online with Etsy.

Especially for the event, Valley End Jewellery crafted two limited edition miniature replicas of the Hoad monument to celebrate ten years of the festival.

Business owners and creators, Zac Wilson and Lisa Southern first started making jewellery during the Covid-19 Pandemic Lockdown.

This was their third year at AFF, Lisa said: ““I love Fine Fest, the first year, we were gobsmacked, it was non-stop! The same the year after, so we had to come back!

“It’s great because everyone is different, and we get to meet such a wide base of customers and make jewellery to suite so many people.”
