A HAIRDRESSER is celebrating 12 years since she opened her business in a town's market.

Pammy Gibson the owner of The Mane Barbers Shop located in Barrow Market Hall opened the doors of her business in 2012.

Her journey to become a hairdresser started at Kendal College where she learned all her skills in two years.

Pammy then worked in hair salons but one day felt it was time to 'step out' on her own.

"It took me a long time to build up a client base because I went in with nothing so I have worked hard to get where I am but the only praise is down to my customers because without them I would not have a business," said Pammy.

"At the time when I opened in the Market, there was already a hairdresser in there so because I was purely just doing haircuts I opened as a barber, but did not want to turn ladies away if they wanted haircuts as well, so now it is fifty-fifty and I do children's hair cuts as well."

Asking what it is like to work in the Market the hairdresser said that the community is 'brilliant'.

"Unfortunately we lost a lot of traders with the refurb coming up but overall we all get one, we all look after each other and each other's business - I love it," she said.

"I have got a new shop to move to within the market while the refurbishment takes place and then the plan is to once the refurb is finished we all will be moving back inside the market in a new salubrious market hall. I am quite excited about it."

Regarding the future of her business, Pammy said: "I keep my options open. There is always room for change in everything that you do."
