Barrow businessman aims to retain national award title

Mike Hughes, of Mike Hughes Fitted Interiors for Kitchens and Bedrooms, has once again been nominated at the KBSA Design Awards.

Having triumphed last year, he has seen two of his entries make the shortlist in the Bedroom Designs category.

Mike will be going up against Alistair Glover of Alexander and Vesta Space Ltd's Alice Hartland as he looks to add another trophy to his cabinet.

Company secretary Ann Hughes  said: "We're delighted to receive the news that Mike is shortlisted.

"This was a new category last year which he won - it's a great feeling to be rewarded for his design work and expertise.

"Mike's so pleased to get this recognition, mainly because fitted bedrooms are a big part of our business."

The family-run organisation has grown to be one of the stalwarts of the industry, putting the South Lakes and Furness regions on the map.

Mike and Ann first opened the showroom on February 11, 1987 and have since built a well respected reputation that has seen plenty of repeat customers over their 37 years of business.

Located on Park Road, their showroom in Barrow offers two floors of kitchen and bedroom sets, as well as numerous other features including walk in wardrobes and designs aimed at family living.

Whilst Mike originally called Askam his home, the couple married in Barrow, a place they have settled in ever since.

They will be hoping to repay the support shown by the Furness community by bringing the trophy home later in the year.

The winners of the KBSA Design Awards will be announced on Wednesday, October 9 at The Belfry Hotel and Resort, where they will be awarded with a trophy and framed certificate.
