A MAN who suffered a 'medical episode' after a walk in Lake District was airlifted to hospital.
Coniston Mountain Rescue Team reported that a family was walking up to Carron Crag in Grizedale on Friday when one of them had a medical episode.
A passing cyclist, who was a trauma doctor, stopped to assist the man, said the rescue team.
North West Ambulance Service was called and deployed Helimed 08 from Blackpool, a land ambulance and the mountain rescue team.
CMRT despatched two Land Rovers, arriving after the paramedics from the air ambulance.
A spokesperson for CMRT said: "We brought a stretcher up in case it was needed, but, after assessment, the casualty was able to be helped down the narrow path to the land ambulance waiting on a forest track.
"He was taken to Furness General Hospital for further treatment."
The rescue counted with 11 volunteer team members, and the incident took one hour and 35 minutes.
