A MEMBER of the armed forces will be sentenced on Monday after an attack involving a steak knife in Barrow.
Sean Callan, 33, pleaded guilty to unlawfully and maliciously wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after an incident in York Street on February 1 2022.
The defendant, whose address is listed on court documents as the Army Training Regiment in Grantham, Lincolnshire, also falls to be sentenced for being in possession of a bladed article.
He was due to stand trial for the charges at Preston Crown Court on March 20 this year but confessed to the offences on the day of trial.
On that occasion, Claire Brocklebank, representing Callan, said her client was ‘aware of the seriousness of the offences' and that custody in the case was ‘almost inevitable’.
Ms Brocklebank told the court Callan brought a custody bag with him to court on that occasion as he was fully prepared to be sent to prison.
However, Recorder Michelle Brown adjourned sentencing until June 10 for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.
The case – and further details of the offences – were not opened by the prosecution on the previous occasion.
Callan will appear back at Preston Crown Court on Monday after being granted conditional bail with a requirement not to contact the victim.
